The Tournament is our Biggest Event of the Year!
Perhaps the largest Martial Arts event in the area. Our tournament has grown and developed over the years. Its humble beginnings started in the town of Martin, Tennessee in 1986 with only a handful of competitors. By 2009 it has grown to over 800 competitors and is still growing today!
This event takes place in the Kentucky International Convention Center, with participants hailing from all over the world:
• Bermuda |
• Nepal |
• Alaska |
• Puerto Rico |
• Tajikistan |
• California |
• Barbados |
• Guam |
• Korea |
• N. Korea |
… And more! |

Our tournament is set-apart by several elements, but most distinctly, everyone is a winner! You leave with a 36 inch trophy, huge full color-gold medals, and a giant smile on your face. We have a full staff of thoroughly trained referees, as well as over 100 volunteers! We wouldn’t be able to pull off such a huge, international event, without the help of all of these amazing individuals.
Each year a committee of individuals we call horsemen are appointed to plan, organize, and execute the events for the year; the tournament is the year’s final event, the culmination of all of their hard work and effort. These individuals are chosen by Grandmaster Hwang for their unique abilities and take time, on top of their normal jobs, to ensure the success of our events! They deserve a huge applause!
This year's 24th Hwang's Martial Arts International US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship will take place on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
